At the College of Charleston's Addlestone Library, growth came fast, from both students and collections. By 2014, rising demand and the addition of the South Carolina Historical Society's archives pushed the space to its limits, making a rethink of how everything fit not just helpful, but essential.
Instead of expanding outward, the library looked inward. Partnering with Patterson Pope, they reconfigured existing spaces with high-density mobile shelving—consolidating collections, protecting valuable materials, and making room for both research and student use.
Today, the library holds more, serves more, and offers more space for students to gather and study. Download the case study and watch the video to see how Addlestone Library balanced preservation with a better campus experience.
